A magnificent pair of nightstands in walnut wood from a remarkable series designed by George Nakashima. The style he developed combined traditional American and Japanese with modern elements and varied over time. George Nakashima focused on the grain and structure of the wood, as he did with these pieces. Manufactured by Widdicomb. The American Architecture alumni from Massachusetts Insitute of Technology discovered his love for woodwork during a stay in Japan, working for architect Antonin Raymond. The woodwork however stayed as a constant that he became known for, appreciated by famous companies such as Knoll International. Apart from the complex techniques and styles that influenced him, American Studio furniture, Wharton Esherick and Sam Maloof show resemblences to his work.
