This 1952 standing cabinet with lacquered metal doors in black and light white and wooden door handles slides from left and right. The wardrobe on one side is complimented by two shelves on the other side. It is a fantastic early example of industrial design from the Belgium modernist stream. Manufactured by Tubax. Willy van der Meeren is one of the most important Belgian architects and furniture designers after the second world war. His work is ideologically motivated by wanting to create affordable, well-designed social housing complexes for the masses. In this, he is inspired by Le Corbusier. There is a clear linkage between his and Charlotte Perriands work.
