Oscar Niemeyer was one of the most important personalities of Brazilian modern architecture. Free flowing forms, the relationship to the natural environment and the handling of straight and curved lines determined his characteristics and his creative ability to create lightness out of dense material. In the 1930s he worked for the modernist architect Lúcio Costa. There he collaborate with Le Corbusier on the building of the Ministry of Education and Health in Rio de Janeiro.
