Two early examples of Isamu Noguchi´s "Akari" table lamps. They are a part of the Akari light sculpture line and the original washi paper shades bears Noguchi´s printed mark. Both examples comes in an elongated form. An icon of 1950s modern design, manufactured by Ozeki Company, Japan. In the 1940s and 1950s, Noguchi's best-known furniture designs were created for Herman Miller and Knoll International. During a stay in Japan in 1951, the Asian lamps made of paper and bamboo aroused Noguchi's enthusiasm. Using traditional manufacturing techniques, he created new shapes, replacing candles with electric light bulbs, light sculptures for everyday use.
