Italoamerican Designer Harry Bertoia developed this type of design from the famous 1952 Bertoia chair series, whose chrome-plated steel wires were reshaped by the weight of the person sitting on the chair. Furniture manufacturer Knoll International marketed several versions of the model. The two kids' chairs come with a white lacquered seating surface on a black metal frame. Sculptor and furniture designer Harry Bertoia studied at the Society of Arts and Crafts and the Cranbrook Academy of Art, where he met Walter Gropius, Edmund N. Bacon and Charles & Ray Eames. He taught metalworking and designed abstract metal jewelry. In 1942 Bertoia moved to California to work with Charles & Ray Eames for the Evans Products Company.
