Gio Ponti

A beautiful side table or console made of ash, designed by the famous Gio Ponti. The unusual height enhances the elegance of the object. This object is from a furniture series once designed for the Hotel Royal in Naples. This is probably the reason for the dedication of a guest on the bottom of one of the two drawers. From 1930 Gio Ponti designed lamps and furniture for Fontana and in 1932 he took over the management of the subsidiary FontanaArte together with Pietro Chiesa. Ponti was one of the founders of the important Milan Triennale and built the Denver Art Museum. Classics are his Superleggera chair for Cassina, his glasses and lamps for Venini or the coffee machine for La Pavoni. Together with Franco Albini and Ico Parisi, he had a decisive influence on the Italian design style of the 1950s.
