Handmade, amazing, magnificent sofa, constructed by George Nakashima himself in hand with American walnut. It is a great example of Nakashima's outstanding woodwork, which is characterized by its delicate proportions. The American architecture graduate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology discovered his love for woodwork during a stay in Japan, where he worked for the architect Antonin Raymond. The style he developed combined traditional American and Japanese with modern elements and varied over time. Woodwork, however, remained a constant for which he became famous and was appreciated by famous companies such as Knoll International. Apart from the complex techniques and styles that influenced him, American studio furniture, Wharton Esherick and Sam Maloof show similarities with his work.
