Jørgen Kastholm & Preben Fabricius

Preben Fabricius and Jörgen Kastholm met during their studies in the 1950s. In 1962, they establish their common studio, in which they develop classics of furniture history, but disband it already in 1970. Inspired by functionalism and the consistency of Scandinavian design, which substantially characterizes the aesthetics of the 60s, the interior designers   Preben Fabricius and Jorgen Kastholm devote themselves to the optimization of shape, material and ergonomics. With creative sensitivity Fabricius and Kastholm design in these eight years numerous pieces of furniture, most of all seating furniture, on the one hand clearly influenced by the Bauhaus, on the other hand by the rational design of the 1950s and 60s. The basis of their furniture is stainless steel and leather – unusual for the time, when Danish design was marked by wooden furniture. Their goal is a clearly detectable function of aesthetic form. Thus they form lasting models of modernity.

Fabricius' and Kastholm's FK shell chair stands for classical design, is timeless as it is modern. In 1969 the chair is awarded the first-ever national prize for Good Form.
